Amazing Quantities Of Bytes

According to one study, the world's computers combined together stored approximately 160 exabytes in 2006, with nearly 1 zettabyte projected by 2010.

Some interesting facts !

A yottabyte (derived from the SI prefix yotta-) is a unit of information or computer storage equal to one septillion (one long scale quadrillion or 1024) bytes. It is commonly abbreviated YB.
As of 2008, no computer has achieved one yottabyte of storage. In fact, the combined space of all the computer hard drives in the world does not amount to one yottabyte. According to one study, the world's computers stored approximately 160 exabytes in 2006, with nearly 1 zettabyte projected by 2010.

Representations of 1 Yottabyte :

* If a YouTube video existed that showed the Earth in real-time from the moment it was born until present day (estimated 4.5 billion years), approximately 210 copies of this video would equal one yottabyte.

* If an iPod was crafted with one yottabyte of storage space, approximately 141 quadrillion songs (5.0 minutes each) could be uploaded to it. (Think again b4 you show off ur Ipod 160 gb.. )

* It would take approximately 86 trillion years to download a 1 yottabyte file using the technology that we have (2008), and the entire contents of the Library of Congress would consume a mere 10 terabytes. (And if u are on sify, then fuhhget it. )

* It would cost about $289,990,000,000,000 for one yottabyte of memory at 2008 prices.

* 1 yottabyte can hold 50,000,000,000 years of DVD quality video. (Me wanty.. )

* Lining up 1 yottabyte of cascaded 1TB hard disks, this line would stretch approximately from the Earth to Mars.

Now those are some shocking figures..
